Dear Supervisor Murray and Town Board Members,
I am a resident of West Hempstead and I am aware that the Town held a public hearing on Tuesday December 11 regarding the Courtesy Hotel. The Town Board had an opportunity to learn more about the Trammell Crow Residential (TCR) proposal for the Courtesy Hotel property and to better understand the benefits it would offer my community. It is imperative that the Town Board reach a decision on the zoning variances which would allow the sale to proceed. Supervisor Murray promised at our Mother's Day rally in the spring that the Courtesy would be closed by the end of 2007. It is readily apparent by now that this has not happened. In fact, we are no nearer to closing the hotel than we were back on Mother's Day. We demand the Town to stop punishing West Hempstead and rewarding "bad behavior" by allowing owners to continue to own and operate this business.
The owners of the Courtesy Hotel have received an offer to buy the hotel at market rates. It is not within the Town Board's remit to be determining what the "right price" is for a sale of private property. The safety of the residents of West Hempstead should not be held hostage simply because the Town is holding a grudge against the owners of the Courtesy Hotel.
The Courtesy Hotel has been a stain on our community for far too long. This is the closest we have come to finally closing it down and we do not want this opportunity to slip through our fingers. Please make every effort to see that this process quickly comes to conclusion.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
