Dear Supervisor Murray and Town Board Members,

It has been over 6 months since the Town Board adopted the URP for West Hempstead.   May 5, 2008 was the deadline for the selected developers to  submit to the Town their Proposals  to redevelop the Urban Renewal Area for West Hempstead.  Two months should be long enough to study the proposals and make a determination as to which developer's proposal would be welcomed by the residents.

If density remains a concern with the Town, we strongly urge you to begin serious negotiations with Trammell Crow Residential so that the Courtesy can be sold and closed without a prolonged and expensive legal battle which an eminent domain acquisition entails.  The issue is, what brings the quickest relief and the most viable solution to an intolerable situation.

Continuing to work to acquire the MTA property is commendable, but the sale and redevelopment of the Courtesy property should not be contingent  on acquiring the MTA property.  You need to take immediate action now. Our community has been punished and has suffered long enough with the burden of the Courtesy Hotel.  Our community is urging you to take the necessary action needed to bring about the demise of the Courtesy without any further delays.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
