Our Story

The West Hempstead Community Support Association (WHCSA) began as the West Hempstead Civic Association in 1995 to start a revitalization campaign in our community.

In early 2007, the Civic Association applied for and received IRS 501 (c)(3) recognition, with the stipulation that the organization change its name. At that time the name was changed to the West Hempstead Community Support Association, Inc.

As a 501 (c)(3) organization, the WHCSA is eligible to apply for private and public grants. In addition, contributions made to the WHCSA by individuals are tax deductible.

With the help of the Executive Board and other volunteers, many improvements have been made in our community and, perhaps more importantly, destructive initiatives have been stopped. Today we have the support of over 800 member households and businesses.

What does the WHCSA do for YOU, our fellow West Hempstead residents:

  • Sponsor and maintain the 9/11 Memorial monument at Halls Pond;

  • Prepare and mail a local newsletter of upcoming news and events to 8,600 residents and businesses in the 11552 zip code three times per year;

  • Host a community yard sale – usually in September, behind the library;

  • Sponsor the Memorial Day Parade and ceremony;

  • Host a summer outdoor family movie night at Echo Park;

  • Sponsor free Summer Concerts at Halls Pond;

  • Hold at least two community meetings addressing the concerns of the community every year;

  • Maintain contact with elected officials and the police to insure the safety of our citizens and the improvement of our community resources;

  • Provide an educational scholarship to a West Hempstead graduating senior high school student;

  • Co- sponsor the annual Street Fair with the Chamber of Commerce;

  • Hold a Children’s Holiday Party every December;

  • Coordinate fuel discounts for residents with oil tanks;

  • And Much More…

All board members are volunteers and we cannot do it alone.

Please consider volunteering to help us keep our community strong.

                          Please join our organization and become a booster.
